Taste Skill

SKILLOpen-source project

An MIT-licensed frontend-design skill that guides coding agents through visual direction, implementation, and browser-based refinement.

Taste Skill review: a design process for coding agents

Taste Skill tries to improve the process around agent-generated interfaces by making design direction and visual review explicit. It is worth considering when a team can run a browser review loop, but it does not replace product design judgment.

A workflow for the visual part of frontend work

Many coding-agent prompts focus on producing components and getting them to run. Taste Skill adds a more deliberate sequence: define a visual direction, implement it, inspect the rendered interface in a browser, and refine what looks wrong. The repository documents an install flow through the Skills CLI and expects a browser-enabled environment (repository and setup guide).

This makes it more relevant to product interfaces than to purely backend tasks. It can help a developer ask for and review visual decisions, but it cannot know a product’s brand strategy or user needs without good input. Treat its output as a design draft that still needs human judgment.

Check version scope and setup

The repo specifies Node.js 22 or later and browser access. Those prerequisites matter for a solo builder who wants a quick, low-friction prompt: installing the skill is only one part of the loop. The current README and skill instructions should also be checked for the specific page type. The repository has changed its scope over time, so older descriptions may not match the current workflow.

Taste is a reasonable candidate when interface quality is a recurring bottleneck and the builder can inspect a real browser render. It is less useful if the work is mostly non-visual, or if the expectation is that a skill will independently guarantee polished design. The repository uses the MIT license (license).
